  1. Programming for eye tracking VR (FOVE)

    One of the main challenges virtual reality has is the way environments don't blur areas not in focus. This causes headaches among many users because natural vision blurs whatever is not in focus, breaking the illusion of depth. Another challenge with virtual reality is the graphics processing required for complete immersion.

    Both problems can be solved with eye tracking VR. By tracking what the user is looking at, graphics quality can be reduced to increase immersion and save on graphics processing while simultaneously increasing the quality that can be gained on high end systems.

    • Procedural creation of enemies on battle field

      It would be cool to generate enemies based on some logic using Python
      (think Marc Antony vs. Roman Legion or a samurai vs. tons of ninjas)

      • Low poly modelling

        Low poly models give a very distinct look and feel and whilst they may look simple (just like pixel art) it takes precision to get it right.

        Given these unique modelling challenges I'd love to see a section added to the Blender course on how to achieve high quality low poly models. Perhaps it could even be in the Blender-Python section if scripting were involved to further streamline the game dev pipeline.

          • Editor Extensions in Unity

            Useful would be a section on extending the editor in Unity3d.

            Currently the course covers very simple extensions such as using the "Range" property attribute to allow using a slider in the Inspector window for a numerical property, or using OnDrawGizmos() to add new gizmos to the Scene view. The Unity manual touches on the subject and gives some really simple examples.

            I'm thinking a section of the course that takes a person through writing editor scripts for various custom behaviors, from custom Inspector property layouts to raising new dockable windows with custom behavior. One (of many possibilities--might be too…

                    I was playing Rocket League earlier today and I realised it was made in Unreal Engine, because of the splash screen. When you do get into the game, you are greeting by a beautiful mode selection menu and your car, which you can interact with, by rotating around it and viewing it from different angles. There is also info about what's new in the game and their Twitter and subreddit.
                    As it is made in Unreal, it is possible and I would love to learn how to make it, or something similar, for example, in BattleTank, be able to customise…

                        https://www.panda3d.org is a free open-source game framework. You can modify and extend the engine in Python and C++.

                        Beautiful results can be achieved (see their website), and this could be a fantastic way to learn to code and get a whole new view on game engines.

                        Usually you spend your time writing C++, and modding in a scripting language. With Panda3D it's the other way round, you spend most of your time in clean and comfortable Python, and extend in C++

                              Everyone - I would like to put a suggestion in for a new course. I was always a big fan of the side-scrolling beat 'em up games that you could play in the arcade like The Simpsons game, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more recently, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game came out for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

                              I used some of the same information from Srđan Mitrović who also has the same idea. Below are the ideas he has listed as stuff he would like to see in the game. I have added a few items…

                                • Real time 3D terrain deformation

                                  I would like to learn how to implement a 3D terrain (volumetric) deformation system for Unity. There seem to be a lot of people working on things like this, including some games coming out (Astroneer), and it just seems like a really handy thing to be able to do. Not just for terrain deformation, but destructible components, etc.

                                    • I want to learn Maya and Zbrush

                                      I'd like to learn Maya and learn to animate and texture various objects to make them game ready. Similar to the Blender course (which is awesome) I just can't stand Blender with it's horrible UI and i enjoy Maya much more. I would just like a good teacher to help me master it (hint hint)
                                      Maybe learn to create characters, buildings, furniture and cars etc.
                                      I would also love to learn how to texture things from sketchup and make them game ready too (since architecture within sketchup is faaar quicker and easier) but that would just be an added bonus…

                                      • how to do volumetric scientific visualization in Unity and Unreal

                                        Now more than ever, scientific visualization to tell the story in laymen's terms the effects of climate change should take center stage. The best frameworks for creating interactive virtual worlds is, however, created by the gamer community. My endeavor would be to leverage these fantastic engines (Unity, Unreal) to create immersive data driven environments to enable scientists, researchers, journalists, educators understand *and* to create storyboards to explain and understand earth science phenomena and how it effects our planet.

                                        • Unreal Graphics - Adding in "Settings" options for Texture, Shading, Distance, etc

                                          Basically, i would suggest inserting options for graphics (Texture: Low, Medium, High; Shading; Distance; etc - you know what i am talking about :D). I don't necessarily ask for all, but i think it would be nice to know how to make a game that can use 2 gb vram for high details and 1 gb vram for low (don't take it literally).
